Et Cultura offered five days of jam-packed art, its sights and sounds too many to feature in one blog. Here’s a visual sampling of our constrained experience, along with some murals adjacent to the vendors market and 900 block events.
Close-up of the Urban Conga wooden xylophone and truck painted with Stephen Palladino’s distinctive illustrations.
Nice ping pong tables with original art, and nothing like a fun action shot of people playing, Palladino art on the truck, far left. You can see Et Cultura merch vendors on far right, Urban Conga rules by the way.
Good to see one of the good ol’ bugs of the former Mad Beach Surf Shop (1976-2001) parked there.
How not to include a close up of Mark Stevens robot and Apexer’s signature. Two of our great local muralists/artists.
Incredible laser cat behind Pizza Box surprised our Assistant Editor Julie Garisto. It was painted by owner Adam Duff and his brother.
Provocative and colorful murals by Daniel Bombardier a.k.a Enjoy Denial, a mixed-media artist and designer from Windsor, Ontario. This project was curated by Nick Kekllas.
Billy Mays III a.k.a. Infinite Third on his Gibson doing his chill music at Jannus Live! for Saturday’s show.
Another shot of Infinite Third and the Jannus lights. Listen to his amazing new album Channel(s).
Trailblazer and New York underground icon Simeon Coxe, 79 aka Silver Apples, performs on a homemade synthesizer a little like the ones he created in the 1960s.
Another one of Simeon Coxe from Silver Apples performing his psychedelic sound.
Legendary shoegaze band makes its first Tampa Bay appearance at Jannus to an appreciative crowd. Says musician Josh Greenberg (of Win Win Winter and EasyBreezy): “Slowdive was phenomenal. One of the best shows I’ve seen this year. … Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead’s vocals sounded great as did the chiming guitars and the propulsive drumming.” Thanks to Greenberg for snapping this pic for us.
